"Armed police" have locked down a road outside a school in Essex this morning (Tuesday, January 16).
Cops cordoned off Ronald Hill Grove near West Leigh School in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, after they received reports of an "incident", reports EssexLive. Emergency helicopters were also seen overhead.
The specific details of the incident are not yet known. It was initially reported officers attending the scene reportedly entered the school building, however, West Leigh School have since confirmed this was not the case and stated the police matter is separate to the school itself.

A spokesman for the school said it remains open, no police officers have entered the premises and the matter is being dealt with by police separately. A picture from the scene showed armed cops and police vehicles swarming the area and a metal yellow barrier pulled across the road in front of the school.
The school has since written to parents and carers of pupils informing them there is no further danger to students. The email read: "We have been advised by Essex Police that there is no longer any danger to West Leigh Schools as the possible threat has moved out of the Southend area.
"The police have now stood down and our schools can return to their normal day. Thank you for your cooperation and we acknowledge your concern. All the children are safe and happy."

An Essex Police spokesperson told the Daily Star: "We received a call from a partner organisation shortly after 8am on Tuesday 16 January who reported concerns relating to the welfare of a man who was making threats. As a proportionate police response, armed police officers from our Firearms Support Unit responded quickly and attended the area of Ronald Hill Grove, Leigh on Sea.
"They were supported by colleagues from NPAS and local policing teams. A thorough and widespread search of the area was conducted.
"We’d like to reassure the community that no threats to the wider public have been identified at this stage and this incident is not related to the local junior school or other businesses.
"Armed police officers have now left the area and local policing teams are continuing enquiries."
