Meghan Markle had a vast change in lifestyle after joining the royal family, and one huge difference she had to make was in the way she dressed.
The Duchess of Sussex was reportedly told she needed to “start dressing less like a Hollywood star and more like a royal,” after a controversial decision during her first official appearance with Queen Elizabeth II.

Meghan Markle ‘told to stop dressing like Hollywood star’
During her time in the royal family, there were considerable “rumblings over Meghan’s appearance,” Dylan Howard and Andy Tillett write in their book, Royals at War.
It’s reported that Prince Harry‘s wife also got a few ‘tellings off.’ One in particular, came in the early days of her pregnancy when insiders told The Mail on Sunday that she got a “stern telling off for her shorter hemlines above the knee, constant shout-outs to British designers, and her fashionista fondness for black.” the authors write.
Black is traditionally only worn by royals when they are in mourning.
The insider, who is said to be “well-placed” then claimed she was told to “start dressing less like a Hollywood star and more like a royal.”
Before marrying Harry, Markle was best known for her role as Rachel Zane in the hit TV show, Suits. When their engagement was announced, so was Meghan’s exit from the show. However, it was reported that the family allegedly had ‘strict rules’ for her final scenes, including her wedding dress.
The comment about “dressing like a Hollywood star” allegedly came after Markle made the ‘controversial decision’ not to wear a hat during her first official appearance with the Queen, “despite being told to”, the authors claim.
It’s not the first time Meghan has broken royal protocol. She once broke the rule of signing autographs, however, seemed to get away with it as she and Harry weren’t officially married at the time.
Meghan’s Hollywood lifestyle was ‘raising eyebrows’

As well as her ‘dress sense’ it was claimed in the book, Royals At War, that the 42-year-old’s “rotating door of celebrity friends” was ‘raising eyebrows’ with some of the more traditional members.
These ‘Hollywood friends’ attended the royal wedding between Harry and Meghan, including Serena Williams, George and Amal Clooney, and Idris Elba.
However, it looks like the couple may not be as close to George and Amal Clooney anymore if the latest reports are to go by. Recently, it was reported they had been ‘snubbed’ from George and Amal Clooney’s Gala.
At the time, an insider told Radar Online that the two were “humiliated” after not receiving an invite.
It is not known what caused the reported ‘rift’ in the friendship, but the Clooney’s were seen at King Charles‘ Prince’s Trust event in London earlier this year.
